Question Flagyl - Side Effects

I was prescribed Flagyl for a suspected parasitic infection (250 mg. three times per day for 7 days) back on August 23, stopping August 30. To this date, September 5, I still have a chalky white tongue, metallic taste in my mouth and dry mouth. I took 500 mg. for a prescribed round a few years ago and think I remained with symptoms of nausea two weeks after I stopped it.

Has anyone else who has taken Flagyl had this occur and remain for almost one week afterward?

P.S. My hands are also a little "shaky."

Busy Mom
It will flat clean out your gastrointestinal tract of both the good and bad bacteria---and give you a yeast infection that is BAD.

You have a Candida Albicans --yeast infection --big time. The white tongue is thrush and it goes all the way to your colon.

Start eating a good brand of yogurt and take PB-8 at bed time. Probiotica that is put out by the makers of Imodium and sold at Wal Mart is also very good. You have to replace the yeast with good bacteria!!!

Also, limit your sweet intake ---yeast thrives on sugar. There are also some candida killers availale at your health food store.

God Bless---Harry

The yeast in your mouth needs to be treated so call the doc and get something for that. You mentioned having nausea the last time you took Flagyl for 2 weeks after the medication. ANYTIME you have any side effects from a med be it nausea, dry mouth or whatever you need to report this to your doctor so they can note this on your chart for future refernce. Many times they can prescribe something else if one drug causes problems for you. Follow Harry's advice as well as calling your doc for something for the thrush before it makes your mouth to sore to eat. Good Luck.

Hi,
Thought I'd give you a little more support!!!
The drug of choice to kill the yeast so that you can replace it with good intestinal bacteria is Nystatin For the GI tract. I read that there is constant war-fear going on in the gastrointestinal system between the good and bad bacteria.
As you may know there have been several anti-fungal drugs developed that that do in vaginal yeast infections in just one dose--Diflucan and Sporanox. The problem with yeast infection is that they readily mutate and sometimes you have to rotate the medication. There have been over 900 different fungi that have been identified. Many people don't know that prcessed food, some beverages as well as stress can cause an un-balance of the intestinal micro flora(bacteria). And, of course you know antibiotics are a big culprit.

People that have to take alot of antibiotics such as those with AIDS and other longterm infections have a big problem with yeast infections.

There are some natrual things that have an anti yeast effects such as caprilic acid, aloe vera juice, pau d'arco, maitake tea, and olive leaf extract. A relatively new one from New Zeland is Kolorex that you can buy in the states now ---it is a herbal formula of two capsules Anise and Horoito leaves. It is sort of expensive for a 28 day supply---. I just bought some but have not needed to used them yet but the person that recommended it---I highly respect his opinion. He said, "it is the best on the market". Do a search for Kolorex on ********** ---I bought mine from Whole Approach,Inc at a discount.

God Bless---Harry

Raw garlic is also really good at killing unwanted organisms (it’s virtually impossible for anything to build immunity to raw garlic. Garlic supplements don’t do much. Since allicin kills all living cells too much garlic is bad for you because it also kills your own cells.). Grapefruit seed extract is also really good at killing unwanted organisms. Unprocessed Aloe Vera (preferably from the Aloe Barbadensis Miller family. There are over 240 different types of Aloe Vera families) is also really good. You definitely want to replace the good bacteria in your body and you also might want to look into a product called Immunolin. Immunolin is supposedly the best product for replacing antibodies in your digestive system (I never tried it so I’m not sure how well it works but I read message boards with people who tried it and most people report very positive results. It basically gives the body massive amounts of antibodies from cows that have antibodies much bigger and stronger than our own antibodies. These antibodies then search the body for any destructive organisms and attacks them. They are very smart because they don’t attack good bacteria they only attack anything destructive. However you don’t want to take Immunolin with anything that might kill these antibodies; ex: garlic). For more information on parasites and garlic read my post on parasites.
