Nail Fungus - Lamasil

I was diagnosed with toenail fungus and given lamasil to take orally, once a day for three months. Has anyone had success with this? What are side effects like? I noticed some people here on the boards did not go the pill route but instead chose to treat it topically with various lotions and/or natural substances. Why not the pill? Is it the expense or is there other information I'm not aware of?

I believe it can cause liver damage. That doesn't mean it will but than it can.

My Doctor Prescribed Lamisil for my discolored toenails, took all as prescribed with no effect. Was expensive too what a rip off i dont recommend it.

Re: Nail Fungus - Lamasil

Has your Doctor taken blood work from you if you are on the Lamisil? They have to keep track of your liver when you are on this medication because Lamisil can cause so much damage to liver, eyes I read that someone's tongue remained numb even after months of going off of the meds. Lamisil is dangerous and should not be taken into consideration lightly. I refused to take it when my Dr. said I would have to have weekly blood tests to make sure my liver was still working week to week on that stuff. I came to the conclusion that my liver was more important then my toenail.
I have had the fungus in my bie toenail for five years and Marti recommended Thymol drops and it is working for me. It takes patience because your entire infected nail has to grow off ( takes between 6 months to 1 year), but the Lamisil will take just as long as the nail has to grow off in any treatment you try or use. Good Luck to you but my advice is to stay away from the lamisil.

I am lucky to have it completely covered by my drug plan. My doctor claims it is 80% effective in cases similar to mine. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I just worry about the side effects. However, I am young and healthy so hopefully nothing will happen.
