Gallbladder Surgery Question

Hi,

I had my gallbladder out four weeks ago today. I was doing o.k. until last Thursday when I probably had too much to eat (not tons, though) and two glasses of wine. I got sooo sick I thought I was going to have to have my hubby take me to the ER. I had a horrible pain in my stomach and kept feeling like I was going to throw up. This lasted for about six hours and it was truly horrible pain.

Since then every time I eat I get a stabbing, burning feeling in my stomach. It doesn't matter what I eat or how much I still get this pain. Has anyone else ever had this happen? It's scary and I'm not sure if it's a result of the surgery or something else.

I also had a belly button hernia fixed at the same time as my surgery and I get a burning in that area as well.

Any reply's would be appreciated.

B.G.

Re: Gallbladder Surgery Question

I hope you're feeling better now. Sorry no one has responded to you yet!

Here's what I think -- I think you ate too much at one time and made matters worse with the wine. At four weeks out I ate a bunch of chocolate and boy, was I sorry about THAT! Horrible pains (and I was at a concert at the time!) so I drank a lot of water and that helped.

I realized it just takes more time, so was careful after that and ate small meals without much fat, etc., pretty much the way I'd eaten for a year prior to the surgery.

Now I can eat anything and have wine with no problem. I still wouldn't eat a giant meal, though, because during all of the gall bladder stuff I lost weight so probably shrunk my stomach, too. Big meals all at once are not good for anyone, anyway.

Take heart -- within a few more months you will be feeling a whole lot better and probably not be as likely to experience odd and frequently painful events. I told my gastroenterologist about some bizarre pains I'd had and he said NOTHING I told him was alarming. He, too, had his gall bladder out, though many years ago, so he knows what we can go through. Everyone is a little different but most of us have some residual effects at least for awhile.

Good luck to you!!!
