Re: question about valium and back pain

Valium is used as a muscle relaxer, however it is very addictive. There are other choices, in my opinion, that are much safer and work as well.
Are you having muscle spasms, or are you anxious? In any case, I think you should talk to your pcp about your inability to sleep.

Re: question about valium and back pain

I was prescribed vicodin and valium after my discectomy. The valium did help me relax. I was only to take it at bedtime and only every 8 hrs if I was having back spasms. I only needed it at night. My doctor only prescribed 20 pills, that was enough to get me through the rough nights. Never hurts to ask and see what the doctor recommends.

Re: question about valium and back pain

Valium is a musle relaxant and it helps to calm you down. My doctor refers to it as an ER medication. If you are having muscle problems, muscleo skeletal relaxants would probably help more. I am usually prescribed flexeril, but I know some people who have taken skelaxin (Spelling?)

Re: question about valium and back pain

I am a lurker by nature but thought I would give some of my limited experience. I had a fusion L5/S1 on 11-19-04. I was sent home from the hospital with percs 5/325 and 5mg Valium. They have really helped me in concert with the percs to relax my lower back. My doc has also said Valium is dangerously addictive and prescribed 15 days worth. I think they have been very important in my pain management after surgery. Good luck and God Speed....
