Re: Day two discectomy/terrible

Hi Jason,

I was told when had my discectomy that i could have a bad headache for a couple of days after op. This is due to sometimes a bit of spinal fluid leaking during operation and can give you a headache, but should go within couple of days. Quite normal. The sickness was probably due to medication given or anastetic.

Just rest and im sure you will feel better soon

Re: Day two discectomy/terrible

I had a microdisectomy exaxcly two weeks ago. Although I didn't have a head ache, I did have bad chest pain, I couldn't clear the chest congestion. It slowly cleared and now it is almost back to normal. it seems that everyone reacts differently to the anestesia. I drank a lot of liquids (mostly water) to help flush my system. I also ate bananas for the potasium to help with muscle cramps. I chose not to take any pain meds after surgery, only an aspirin in the moriing and one in the afternoon.

Your problem may be due to the stress and anxiety of the ordeal. At any rate, you should call your doctor to set your mind at ease.

The headache and vomiting could be from the anesthesia and will just work itself out, but it could also be a dural tear.

CALL THE DOCTOR.

While tears CAN mend themselves if you lay perfectly flat for a couple days (and that is completely and perfectly flat, getting up to only go to the bathroom) many times it needs a patch. Do call the doctor and make them aware. They will tell you what to do. No need to suffer needlessly.

Re: Day two discectomy/terrible

When I had my discectomy it took me almost a week to get rid of the headache and the congested feeling in my chest. But that's how I always react to anesthesia. Take care and I hope you get to feeling better.
