Hiatus Hernia and GERD

Hi there, I have been reading the messages posted here and I don't feel so all alone in my symptoms.

I have had a hiatal hernia for about 15 years and on and off during this time have had the feeling of something stuck in my esophagus or throat but it always went away after a couple of weeks. For about two months now I have had this same feeling. In the mornings if feels like glob of something there that eventually goes further down into the esophagus. Eating and drinking make it feel better but it is always always there. Sometimes I have a burning in my chest but not always.

I have elevated my bed, eat small meals, try to drink only 1 pepsi a day (caffeine) and take Losec 20mg twice a day. I am scheduled for a Barium swallow in four days and had an ultrasound today.

I am extremely frustrated and upset about this throat/esophagus feeling. Does anyone else have this and what helps? Thank you so much for your help.

Re: Hiatus Hernia and GERD

Hi
I get "the glob" as well. Mine moves from the back of my throat to the middle of my chest. Eating something sometimes relieves it and then sometimes makes it worse. I stop eating anything about 3 hours before I go to bed. I recently have had the barrium swallow for my esophagus. I also had a CT scan and a chest xray. No one really has told me anything. I take Nexium and it helps. Many people say it is stress related. So I went back to the gym, cut out grease and soda. I won't give up my coffee though.
Relaxing has helped me considerably. Good luck to you and Happy Holidays.

Re: Hiatus Hernia and GERD

Hi Meredith:

Thanks so much for the reply. It's nice to know that I'm not alone in this big world. Just one question for you please. Do you feel this "glob" when you are drinking or eating? Like there is actually something there? I am just really anxious about this and have had some very frustrating days. I would love to hear how your tests went. Thanks again.
