Lasik...Just wondering

I just got Lasik yesterday afternoon. So far I had no discomformt and have been following everything my Surgen advised. I am just a bit concerned with the results. I went to my follow-up appointment today and my doctor seemed very pleased with my vision and healing.

Others that have had Lasik told me they say immediate results right after surgery. Let me preface this by saying I do see better then I did before without my glasses. Before I had Lasik I was nearsided. Now I seem to be able to see far away, but up close is somewhat burry. I keep reaching for my glasses because I can quite focus on things. Of course my glasses don't work anymore. I asked my Doctor about my results and he told me that everyone's vision is different and in a couple days I WILL see great improvment. I think I can drive, but I am not don't feel 100% safe driving at night. Maybe I am just listening to everyone else having awesome results immediatly and feeling nervous.

Has anyone else had my situation. I would feel better just knowing that things are ok. My eyes look great in the mirror, just wondering if I should be all that concerned, or if I should let nature do it coarse?

Re: Lasik...Just wondering

Hi, I had Lasik a year ago and am very pleased with my results, I now have 20/15 vision, which is a little better than 20/20. If you just had the procedure done on December 3, it is too soon to judge the final results. It takes 1 week of healing for EACH degree of correction. I had 9 degrees of correction, including astigmatism, so I had 9 weeks of recovery. Also, you are still, hopefully, putting antibiotic drops in your eyes, along with lubricating drops; they add to the blurriness, but are absolutely neccessary. Remember, don't rub your eyes no matter what! You could dislodge your flap, and then you'd be in a mess. Just follow the doctor's orders. Use your drops and let your eyes heal. It takes time. (It would probably be a good idea to rest your eyes, and not read too much just yet .) Good luck, I know you'll be better in a couple weeks.

Re: Lasik...Just wondering

I agree with Donna.. I had mine done 4/2000 and my prescription was nearly -9 in each eye. I did see quite well right away but then about a week and a half later my vision started getting blurrier and I was getting "ghosting" when I was in dim light. However, this was merely part of the healing process - they hadn't quite explained that I would go through some ups and downs before reaching my final result. It's 4+ years later and I too have been 20/15 in both eyes ever since. Give it some time and try not to worry... it takes time for your eyes to completely heal .

Yes, Madera reminded me that the doctor did tell me to not freak out if one day my vision was good, then the next it wasn't. It will be up and down during the healing. I guess it heals unevenly or something, but it all evens out in the end. Really.
