Protonix

Ok I have been taking protonix 40 mg once a day for a couple months, it was working fine til the last week or so, I went ahead and took it twice a day and a friend told me I should never double dose this stuff, but no one can tell me WHY NOT! What will happen if I do continue to do it for breakthrough heartburn til I see my Dr nevt week?? I can't afford to let it slip, I have Barrett's with no cell change and want to keep it from getting to that point. I've tried previced, prilosic aciphex and lots of otc and nothing works for very long. I'm going to get my Dr to give me Nexium to see how it works. So til then why can't I double dose? Even double dose doesn't work that great! Can anyone tell me the hazards of taking two pills a day instead on one??

Re: Protonix

I was on Protonix twice a day. It did help. Finally the Protonix stopped working for me all together and I switched to Nexium twice a day.

Re: Protonix

I'm bumping this old thread.

Can anyone who has a lot of experience with Protonix speak up?

What about the double-up?

How long is it safe?

How long before it doesn't work?

This is the med I'm on, and after some stopping and starting, I've been back on for about 10 days now, and I double-dosed today because things got worse today than at any point since before I went back on it?

Any known dangers?

Any info anyone has to share on this specific med would be appreciated.

thnx ahead,

WTBH

Re: Protonix

I've been using it for about a year with no side effects and it still works. However, I've never double dosed. Your doctor should probably know about that before attempting it.

Re: Protonix

Consult your Dr first, most of these PPI's can be taken twice a day and some people have to take them three times a day. Long term effects haven't been established with some of them yet.
