My 3rd appointment towards GB
Hello Everyone,
I have just had another appointment towards getting my gastric bypass. This last appointment was for the psycholigist, It was really easy although I was very nervous. I went in and he asked me the regular psych questions, did I have a good childhood, did I have a good family life, do I have to much stress, and so on and so forth. He asked me why I thought I was having to see a psycholisist and I told him that it was to make sure I wasnt crazy, and he just laughed, but really isnt that what he was doing? Well any way in the end he said I should be the poster child for this surgery. He said he would be calling the surgen and he should be getting intouch with me soon, and as soon as I get a call than Ill let ya all Know. I hope everyone is having a wonderful Holiday season.
Take Care

Re: My 3rd appointment towards GB
Hi Cooki,
This appointment wasn't to see if you were crazy it was to see if you could handle the surgery and the changes that will happen to you and your family. People do not realize how they will change after the surgery, and how the surgery will change them. It is very overwhelming, they have support groups for people after surgery, I suggest you join one. I know this because my mom had a GB done, she has lost more than she weighs now she is doing GREAT. I would suggest it to anyone. Also, I work in a hospital where we do Rou-en-Y, Gastroplasty everyday. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Good luck, and take care..

Re: My 3rd appointment towards GB
You are so correct about how the surgery changes everything. I had the surgery and I lost one half of my self. The changes start from the minute you decide to do the surgery and continue rapidly after you wake up from the surgery. When you start dropping the pounds, people start to treat you differently. The ones who know you either admire you or start worrying over you afraid that you are going to do something stupid. After I lost my initial weight every one who saw me started asking me if I was not losing too much weight. It is amazing how people who love you and say they want you to be happy and at a good weight, will start to hover and warn you when you actually change. But, you end up handling your own emotions about your new look as well as trying to comfort others who are worried about you. Then when you start to meet people who never knew you were overweight, they treat you so differently as well. You do not get the sympathetic looks or glances away, and they do not treat you like you came from mars either. I am going on 7 years out and I still have trouble with restaurant servers who think I don't like the food because I can not eat everything that comes with a meal. Even though a lot more people have had the weightloss surgery now, you still have to sometimes explain in a restaurant that although the food is delicious, you don't have tummy space for the entire meal. A lot of times I just say I love the meal and can I have a take out box to finish at home. Then I throw it away when I get home.

Re: My 3rd appointment towards GB
Thank you for your response and encouragement, and although I did sound a little offhanded about the psych consult I do understand why it's nessary. I am involved in a support group here and enjoy it a lot.
I am very excited to have the surgery done, also with the right amount of nervousness to go along with it. But I have to say I think although I am so excited to have it done I think that you always have some fear of surgery. But again I think thats normal. I am waiting for a call from the doc to set up the next appointment and I am not known for my never ending patients. So if they dont call soon (by the New Year) I think I will give them a call. Unless you all think I am being to impatient? Let me know what you think.
Thanks again,
Take Care ,

Re: My 3rd appointment towards GB
Hi Cooki,
Honestly if I were you, I would call them before the end of the year. I work with several surgeons, and they get sooo busy that sometimes they can't fit everything they want to do into asap. Let them know you are very interested and want to have it done when you can. They won't think you are impatient. There are so many people out there that want to have this surgery done Dr.s sometimes get delayed. It is perfectly normal to be scared about the surgery, it is a major surgery, and there will be a long road of recovery. But remember this right after you wake up from the surgery ( or at least this is what my mom said, and she has lost 180lb in 2yrs) you are going to ask yourself, why did I do this, it hurts, I'm uncomfortable, etc, but in a couple of months when you are looking and feeling better you will be so glad you did it). Good luck
