Introducing Myself

I everyone. I just found this board and thought I would check it out. I have severe GERD, asthma, and hypoglycemia. I just got asthma a year ago as a result of my GERD. I've been diagnosed with GERD for 3 years now,but probably had it long before that. I was diagnosed after a year of constant vomiting, electrolyte imbalences, cavities, and tearing a hole in my esophogus. I was 16 then. Prevacid helped a lot at first, but then it seemed to stop working. Now I'm on Nexium 80 mg/day, Carafate, Compazine, and Reglan, just for my reflux. I still vomit and reflux a lot though. Well, that is my little intoduction.

Re: Introducing Myself

All that for reflux, yuck! I've had it for many years, asthma as well but asthma was caused by my silent reflux, I didn't get checked for acid reflux til 4 yrs ago with an endoscopy and they discovered it then. I've only had heartburn a few times a year but it would last several months and then just be gone. Now I have Barrett's Esophagus but without the cell changes and we are trying my last med to see if this helps, if not it will have to be surgery. I just started taking nexium yesterday I haven't felt any change but I know it takes a few weeks or more to tell. All the time I thought I was having asthma problems turned out to be the reflux, that is one thing it has controlled is the breathing problem and coughing, but the burn stays!

Re: Introducing Myself

I know several asthma meds make reflux worse. Do you find that to be the cause with you? I really can't tell because my reflux is so bad and I'm on so many meds. My doctor is really anti-surgery, but I want to look into it.
