Hi I am a new member. I have problems with inflammation of the knees. It all started when I had a foot injury which wasn't sorted out by doctors and as a result of the pain in my foot, I started walking awkwardly on the inside of my right foot. As a result I caused damage to my knee and was told that I now have rheumatoid arthritis. My knees have flared up on a dozen occasions over the past few years resulting in me having to have fluid drained off and cortisone injections into my knees. My specialist put me on Sulphasalazine (disease modifying drug) and arthrotec for the pain. Even when my knees are in their normal state there is alot of thickening on the inside of my legs by the knees (scar tissue I suppose) which means my knees look big even when not inflamed. I stayed on this medication for a number of years - I didn't seem to get any worse but didn't get any better either. Last year, my specialist put me on Metheltrexate, because he thought it would work better but it didn't agree with me, causing tummy upsets, violent diarrhoea, etc. I asked to come off this drug, because I wasn't feeling too good and am conscious that these disease modifying drugs could actually cause more problems than they are trying to solve (e.g. liver damage, ulcers, etc.).
I was hoping I would be ok, just taking the Arthrotec but my knees have started to flare up in last couple of weeks. I don't want to go back onto horrible drugs with even worse side effects. I sent for some Serrapeptase through the internet - it is a natural anti-inflammatory from the silk worm.
HAS ANYONE TRIED SERRAPEPTASE - DOES IT WORK?
DO ICE PACKS WORK - IF SO, HOW LONG DO YOU KEEP IT ON FOR AND HOW FREQUENTLY DO YOU APPLY IT?
HAS ANYONE FOUND EXERCISING THE LEGS ACTUALLY HELPS WITH PREVENTING INFLAMMATION?
