The pill, side effects, and libido

I'm looking to switch birth control methods, currently I'm on the pill, and I'm.. well, it's not horrible, but I'm having problems around the site of the patch, it seems to make whichever side of my body that it's on, sore, sick, or otherwise not bearable. So, for that and other reasons I'm looking to switch to a pill.

Are there any suggestions? I'm looking for a pill that won't kill my libido (I've read horror stories and experienced a bit of that myself, which I don't find pleasant or tolerable at all..), if it's possible I'd like to not gain weight on the pill, but it's not a priority, and I'm not interested in the effects on my skin, since I've never had a huge problem with acne. Basically I want a pill that won't kill my libido, that's the most important thing. I've heard good things about Seasonale, Nordette, and other 2nd generation pills with more androgen in them.. so, does anyone have any agreements/disagreements/suggestions?

Well, When I was on Nordette.. I experienced no change in sex drive. I got put on Estrostep FE and I actually noticed an increase in my sex drive..because when I stopped taking my other pill..it was GONE.. I had no desire what so ever to do anything. at all. And then within the first or second day on estrostep.. it was back. So.. It has different effects on everyone. Just try Nordette first though..if you can (NOT LEVORA! DONT GO ON THAT PILL EVER!) ... But yea, that seemed to give me little to no side effects and was very happy on it.. If it doesnt agree with u...try something else. (by the way I had amazing skin with nordette, and gained no weight..but estrostep has definately given me a bigger appetite.)

Hi Jen.. you said you're currently on the pill but I assume you meant to say the patch. Anyways, everyone reacts differently to different hormones so it's tough to say which one will effect your sex drive. As far as weight gain goes, Levlite, Loestrin, Mircette and Yasmin are supposed to be good at keeping the weight off. They also have lower doses of estrogen which means you may have less side effects than other pills.

Personally, I'd suggest Mircette. I think it's a wonderful pill! I haven't gained weight, my sex drive has increased since switching from Ortho Tricyclen Lo and Alesse, my skin is pretty good and my periods are bearable.

right, the patch! I'm on the patch now, that's what I'm trying to avoid next time.. I've actually tried Alesse and became rather attached to it.. it wasn't perfect, but for me it worked "fairly" well.

Stay away from Yasmin -- it completely killed my libido. I was on Seasonale, but gained weight and had problems with libido. My dr. is now prescribing Loestrin 1/30; it is the most androgenic birth control pill, so it is the best for libido. I have also heard that this pill will not cause weight gain. Good luck! Cyndee
