Toprol xl and avapro

Right now I take toprol xl 2oo mg and avapro 300mg. Was taking 150 mg of avapro. My bloodpressure still runs about 178/ 89, and sometimes higher. It wasn't until the Dr. doubled my mg of my avapro that I started having dizzy spells, practically 24/7. Could doubling the medicines have given me these dizzy spells. I have asked the dr. to maybe consider changing my meds. but she don't seem to want to do it.

Re: Toprol xl and avapro

I took toprol xl 100 mgs and avapro 150 mgs. Both were bad meds for me. I was always dizzy on avapro and had an allergic reaction on it. Face swelling, itching, and hives. However, toprol xl is still the worst bp med i've ever taken. And it didn't even lower my bp. It did help with the pulse.

This is not a good combination. Avapro + diuretic (otherwise known as Avalide) is a much more logical combo.

Yes, this is high. But, is this a doctor office or home measurement?

Again, make sure we are talking about home measurements here. Dizzy spells are more typically associated with low blood pressure. Many folks with "white coat" do really have high blood pressure. But, the meds don't necessarily help with the "white coat" aspect. And, the doctor can continue piling on the drugs not knowing what your "true" BP really is.

Sounds like it's time to change doctors.

Re: Toprol xl and avapro

I get dizzy on 100 MGS of Atenolol & 5/20 of Lotrel. Never got dizzy before the meds. It happens from time to time along with many other side-effects. Have an appointment with a specialist on 2/10. Just plain tired of the side effects. B/P was 116/65 yesterday & felt great. Today I woke up with an upset stomach & feel like I have no desire to do much at work. Typical work week for me. Some days are fine & 3-4 days a week I will have some sort of side effect whether it is my stomach, dizziness, flushing, lack of motivation, short term memory loss. I just can't deal with these meds. anymore, so I'm going to a specialist. At 34, it ridiculous to feel this way.

Re: Toprol xl and avapro

I took Toprol XL and it was very bad for me. It actually raised my average blood pressure, and give me blood pressure and heartrate spikes up in the dangerous range.

If your home relaxed readings are uniformly high, then what you are taking isn't working and you need to try something else. Being dizzy all the time is also not acceptable, and again you need to try something else. Insist on alternatives with your doctor, or find a doctor who is willing to work with you.

Whatever you do, don't just stop taking the Toprol. You need to slowly wean off that drug to avoid dangerous blood pressure rebound.
