Question STI531 Cancer Treatment

A friend of my husband has just been diagnosed with cancer, we don't know the name of it. It is apparently a rare cancer (10,000/yr.) The primary tumor is growing on the outside of his stomach, it has also spread to his liver. The treatment his Dr. recommended is an oral treatment (pill) and it is called STI531, he has been told there will be no further treatment of any kind, surgery, chemo, radiation ect... Has anyone heard of this treatment. I would also like to know if there are any sites where I could find more information? Any help would be appreciated.
