Post PET scan and lymphoma

My mother has had all the symptoms of lymphoma EXCEPT swollen nodes for a year. The doctors have ruled out just about everything, and they think it will show up as lymphoma, myeloma or leukemia. All my research points to lymphoma, and I am uncomfortable with their "wait and see" approach.
Everything that I have read indicates that the PET scan can find cancer in the body 2-3 months BEFORE it can be seen on a CT scan or MRI.
My mom's doctors have no experience with the PET technology, and are wary of it. Does anyone have any experience with the PET scan and cancer DIAGNOSIS, expecially regard lymphoma or multiple myeloma? Thanks all.
