Cancer of the Esophagas

Hi my name is JoAnne. My dad had some testing done. The results came back as Precancer of the esophagus (spelling?) The doctor felt that if he would have taken a bigger biopsy he would have found it as cancer. Tests showed abnormal cells... and inflamation. He will be going to see another doctor on January 4th. before he goes to see the other doctor they will be doing testing to save time when he sees the other doctor. We are trying to get as much information on this and what to expect... if anyone has information about this please reply.. thank you for your ears

I have a lot of symptoms I'm suffering from, and I don't know what is wrong with me. I just posted a lengthy message on this board detailing my problem entitled "can you help me out please?". Could you take a look at it for me? Does any of it sound familiar to you??? I was wondering how your father feels and if any of it is similar?

Hi Atipfan:

There are two type of throat cancer that I am aware of, but I'm not a doctor. One is what I have been told is throat cancer and the other is a condition called Barrett's esophogus. I have had Barretts' for seven years and am now almost completed healed. I don't want to give you to much advice right now, but if your dad
has Barretts' and the cancer is active please
let me know by posting a follow up. There are
some new treatments that a lot of doctors don't know about and you will need to consider all options.

I know this is not a big help, but let's hope for the best first.

Hi my name is Bob. My Father in law just recently went through esophageol cancer. His only symptoms were difficulty in swallowing and weight loss.They scoped his throat and found a tumor and a biopsy showed it to be cancerous. He had surgery where they removed a grapefruit sized tumor, his entire esophagus and a portion of his stomach. They checked the lymph nodes and they showed no cancer so there was no other treatment prescribed. The doctors feel confident that they got all the cancer. He is going through a long recovery and having some difficulty eating and drinking but getting better. He was on a feeding tube for several months and just recently had that removed. A few days ago he went back complaining of pain in his hip and they did x-rays and said he has cancer there. From the research I've done it sounds like a bone mestastasis which happens in about fifty percent of cancer patients. They are going to treat it with radiation therapy. I don't know if this helps you any but I thought I would give you all the information I have.

Hi JoAnne. My name is Jim. I've had barretts esophagus for three years now. Barretts is a pre-cancerous condition where the cells have changed. In my case, from gastric reflux disease. I had an open fundoplication surgery performed in Oct. 1999. I still take meds. for acid. They took my stomach and wrapped my esophagus to help prevent acid reflux. I have an EGD every year to determine if dysplaia is present. It is my understanding that dysplasia is the onset of the cancer. I am still negative at this time. They tell me that the pre-cancerous cells aren't proof positive that you will develope cancer, but it does increase your chances. I am currently looking into photodynamic therapy if and when the dysplasia occurs. There are many avenues of information to explore. I am in no way an expert. Just someone trying to live with this problem. If you want to ask any questions at all, please feel free. I hope your dad does get good news and please remember, there are quite a few treatments for this problem. I don't know all of them, but I'm not giving up.
