C. Difficile?

Just wondering...can this infection come on slowly, or does it usually hit like a ton of bricks?

I recently finished 6 weeks of antibiotics, 4 weeks of steroids, and then 5 days of Toradol. I have a burning feeling in my stomach, slightly nauseous, and my stools are a little soft (sorry if that's too much info), but I'm not dying or anything. Just curious if I should call my doctor or if I can wait and see if it gets worse.

Thanks,
Inq

Re: C. Difficile?

I have worked around people with cdiff for many years, and it is not a fun thing to get. Cdiff usually looks a little gelatin like, and the smell is BAD. Lots of loose stools too, and yeah, you'd have abdominal discomfort. NOW, I have never had it myself, so I can't speak from that angle. If they get looser and start to smell badly (different from normal) then yes, you may want to see your dr. If you are really concerned, you could go ahead and make an appt. You'll have to take a stool sample with you I'd bet, so be sure to ask if you can get the appropriate collection materials BEFORE your appt. Good luck to you!

Definitely get checked by your doctor for proper diagnosis.

C.Difficle can be very serious if not life threatening. I lost my mother after hip surgery due to C.Difficle.

About 2-3 weeks after finishing up Augmentin, I get slightly nauseated which can last for several months! I got a bunch of tests (including c. difficile) which turn up negative. Since this has happened more than once, I'm convinced it's the Augmentin (although I'm not sure what exactly it did to cause this feeling!)

Re: C. Difficile?

Sounds like you have antibiotic induced cholitis. I had the same thing happen after a month on erythromycin. Call your doctor. You have to watch for dehydration.
