Vitamins, Supplements & Iressa???

My dad went to sign the papers today to for the Iressa. He should have it in a few days. He signed a consent form and he told me that one of the papers said that he should stop taking aspirin, vitamins and any herbs. My dad has been taking herbs that we seen an herbalist for all throughout his chemo, and it has helped. He also takes selenium, coQ10, IP-6 and a multi-vitamin. Is there anyone out there using supplements with Iressa??? Thanks.

The reason he was asked to stop the herbal and vitamin supplements is because the ONCs want to get a clear picture of what the Iressa is doing. Drug/herb interactions can and do happen. If your father does experience any adverse side-effects, the ONCs will want to know how to manage them.

You could try to see if this trial is also taking place in Japan, India, Hong Kong, etc. If it is, then there may be some data about these herb/drug interactions. Check the drug manufacturer's Web site for these countries.
