Desperate help needed

Hi,New to this subject
I am a 33 year old mother of 3
My second child will be 4 soon
And as like most children very hyper, but he goes to extremes
The child is starting pre school in the fall, and he still does not know his abc's,count to 5,or know his full name, not lack of me trying I work with him constantly,it is because the child can not sit still,or want to listen,he gets very mean at times also,
Thats where I come in,I started to do some research on my own,my doctor does not seem concerned, and I ran across add, adhd,I have heard of it,but was unsure,See my son has all the symptoms I have had as long as I could remember,to this day,my daily life is a struggle,I was always treated with anti depressants, you name it I have been on it.None ever worked,I also have OCD,I have not been able to fall asleep at nights, even as a child,I was even hospitalized as a youg child and put on lithium,my marriage is strained, and now I see it in my Precious child,I do not know what to do or where to turn,
I truly beleive my father also has the same illness, any advice would be appreciated,I am sorry to go on,but I am kind of relieved to find out there might finally be a solution for me,also where do I go my primary dr.?What kind of testing do they do?thanks so much

I have ADD and have two daughters that have it. We are not hyper though. You can go to your primary Dr. Alot of Drs still dont understand ADD or dont believe in it so if you go to the Dr. and they say no hes just being a boy. Maybe get a second opinion.Or, ask to see a specialist.

Lithium and anti depressants are usually prescribed for bi-polar disorder. It is also hereditary. ADD & ADHD are also hereditary. Celiac disease can also cause bi-polar like tendencies. A good wook up by a neuropsych may lead you to a correct diagnosis.

Re: Desperate help needed

Please, please consider meeting with a behavioral therapist. With your history and the behaviors of your child, both of you probably need to learn better coping mechanisms and processes. A therapist could help you to evaluate the 'maturity' of your child -- possibly a reason why he's not 'up to' the level that you would like and also help you to learn how to better interact with an active child/add toddler.
