Post treatment for indigent, uninsured person?

An acquaintance learned today she has breast cancer. She is uninsured and unemployed. Her only income is from the rental of a room in her house. She does not know where or how she will get treatment. She says that she is ineligible for Medi-Cal because of her rental income.

I am hoping someone who reads this will have some suggestion of where she can go to get free treatment. She lives in Santa Cruz County, California, which is within a couple of hours drive of San Francisco, and much closer to San Jose. Any suggestion of an agency or clinic will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

My suggestion would be to call the American Cancer Society at 1-800-ACS-2345. They will not be able to provide direct financial assitance, but they have a wealth of information about organizations that can help. There ARE programs available that provide this assistance. Good luck!

Hi,
I too am in California, San Fernando Valley and am being treated for breast cancer. I also have medi-cal and I do know that they have various programs for medically indigent care and also share of cost programs. Where I'm being treated at the Leavey Cancer Center they also treat people that are unable to pay for free. Another place she may want to check out is Avon's Breast Cancer Crusade http://www.avoncompany.com/women/avoncrusade/
I believe they have financial assistance for women that need medical care for breast cancer but don't have the financial ability to pay. Good luck.
