Unhappy Diagnosis - Rough Surfaced Area on Cervix - Worried

I just had a Pap Exam on Wednesday. While my doctor was down there he told me he saw a rough surfaced area on the bottom of my cervix. Well after the exam I asked him what he thought it was. He said it could be cancer of the cervix or a virus.

Have any of you ever had a doctor say right off that they saw the area as a rough surface. Today is Thursday and I am worried.

I figure if he can say that from just seeing it in front of him, I can imagine what the microscope will see.

HElp!! Need some advice. Soon....

fatfree,
Don't be worried too much. I know it is scary, but the doctors have to advise the worst case, just to cover their behinds.

Do you have follow-up testing scheduled? I would definately push for further testing now. Don't let them pass you off for months, that can be dangerous to you.

You have to look out for #1. You will probably never relax until you know everything is OK so make sure you get all of your answers and are satisfied that you are health. It is far, far better to discover something early on than to let it progress.

My sister-in-law has a paps test come back abnormal. The doctor said there was pre-cancer cells so he operated and removed her cervix. She did not have to have any further treatment.

Good Luck,
