Picks Disease .. anyone heard of this?

Hello, I'm so terribly upset about my cousin, she has been diagnosed with Picks, she is only in her fifties. Does anyone know anything about this? I have read things on the internet and they are not good.
Thank you,
Mary

Hi Mary,

Sorry about your cousin. I know nothing about Pick's disease except what I read on-line. My mother had Alzheimer's, but I wanted to welcome you.

Hope someone here has the information, experience, and word of hope you need.

Wishing you well - Barbara

Re: Picks Disease .. anyone heard of this?

Hello Barbara, thank you for welcoming me. I am in total disbelief about my cousin. We grew up together, we were very close, I'm just a few years younger than she is. I hate what I've read about this. I am hoping to talk to someone who has experienced this in their family.

Hugs, Mary

Re: Picks Disease .. anyone heard of this?

Hi Mary ... I've been researching Pick's disease, because it seems to be almost exactly what my MIL has. From my research Pick's Disease is people with various types of fronto-temporal dementia: This includes Pick's Disease(PiD), Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD), Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA), Frontotemporal Lobe Degeneration (FTLD), Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB) and Corticobasal Ganglionic Degeneration (CBGD).

I think you will find it's a broad name for a range of dementia's ... My MIL has Frontotemporal Demential, Primary Progressive Aphasia and they suggested perhaps the Dementia with Lewy Bodies (although I have no idea what Lewy bodies are) .....

Goodluck in your research, and welcome??

Sally

Re: Picks Disease .. anyone heard of this?

Hi Mary, welcome to the board. My dad has Picks disease. He was diagnosed with it about 6 years ago, but we think he's had it for well over 10 years, although we can't really tell when it started. I'll check back into the board, so please, feel free to ask me any questions regarding it, and I'll be happy to answer them. It will be nice to have someone to talk to that is going through the same thing, because Picks is so rare, and until now, I haven't found anyone going through it. I don't have a lot of time now, or I'd give you a background of what it's been like. I will come back and post my experience with it soon.
