What would you recommend? - naturopath.

I'm sending my wife to my naturopath. She wants to really focus on her overall health. She only has a few minor to medium symptoms.

Very cold, most of the time, especially feet.
Thinning hair
Always sleepy, wants to sleep too much.
Body fat, evenly distributed, hard to lose.
Bloating
Constipation, minor, occasional
Shakey when hungry, no energy, sleepy

Just to ensure that the doc doesn't overlook something, I was going to send a list of tests/topics with her when she goes. Things to discuss with the doc. What other things would you guys add to the list below. Like, for example, when alot of docs look at thyroid, they sometimes only look at TSH and not all of the thyroid indicators. But if we specifically ask for a complete thyroid series we'll have a better picture. I guess what I'm wanting to do is to create the most accurate snap shot of her health as possible. (so as to get her on the right track quickly)

Thyroid
Adrenals
Depression / SAD
Food intolerances
Allergies
Menopause (40)
Hormones
Neurotransmitters (cortisol etc)
Diet / Exercise / Stress
Glucogen / blood sugar

Thanks.

Re: What would you recommend? - naturopath.

Hi Mikeb, I just went to a naturopath this weekend for many of the same symptoms. I'm not sure what your wife is having done, but I had something done called an electro-dermal screening. He was able to test and go through every organ in my body. HE didn't even ask me my problems, but he was able to see them by the testing procedure. The only other thing I would suggest was to make sure your wife knows what she's eating. If there is something she eats very frequently, also note any artificial sweeteners, wheat products, any meds or supplements she is taking or has taken and for how long. Also be prepared to be able to tell him the dosages. Again, not sure what she is having done, but just giving you advice based on what I had to do. Good luck to her!!

Re: What would you recommend? - naturopath.

Thanks Bluehen94! Good advice.

Curious, what did the "electro-dermal screening" find. (if its not too personal)

Again, not sure what she is having done, but just giving you advice based on what I had to do. Good luck to her!!

Her biggest concern is in losing a few pounds and improving her health in general. She'd like to be a able to taylor her diet specifically to her dietary needs. (ie identify any food intolerances, nutritional deficiencies, etc.) And / Or ... identify any underlying conditions.

Thanks again for the input.

Re: What would you recommend? - naturopath.

Well, some problems I knew I had, and I didn't tell the doctor, because I wanted to see if he could find things without my lead. That way it would prove if he was just a (quack) doctor. I wasn't completely sold on the whole idea. I'm still not, only time can prove me wrong. I knew I had a thyroid problem and he did find that by testing my thyroid. I also have trouble losing my post pregnancy weight from my twins. No matter how much I exercised or ate healthy it made no difference. He discovered I have an overall absorption problem. I am not absorbing my thyroid meds and thus they are not working and I also take a bunch of appropriate supplements for me, but I am not absorbing them. Also he discoverd I have a lot of yeast in my system from taking the pill all these years as well as an inability to digest wheat products due to all the years of eating so much wheat. Also my metabolism was sluggish which he saw. He even saw I had joint inflammation and I do around my knees, from knee surgeries which never healed 100%. The only thing he didn't see was that I have ammenoria (no periods). However, he wasn't surprised when I did tell him. Anyway, I am on a very low carb, no wheat, yeast dairy products diet for 6 weeks. Also no shellfish, no sweeteners, no products with sugar alcohols, its very intense, but it is only 6 weeks to clear my system out. Also I am on about 10 different supplements for yeast, digestion, fish oils, calcium, L-Glutamin, many, many. Weight loss is my priority and apparently this is going to get my system back on track. He will retest everything in 6 weeks. Hope this helps, make sure your wife understands nothing is easy or a quick fix. Good luck to her, I am happy to answer any other questions.

Bluehen94,

What part of the country do you live? I am curious how you found your doctor who does eds? I found mine by accident through a dentist office to test for compatibility for my composites. He lives a little far for me and was wondering how to find one closer to where I live.

Mike,
Your wife sounds like she might have hypothyroid. Maybe your doctor can give your wife a trial of Armour thyroid med to see if it helps. That is if her test comes back normal. Another sign of thyroid problem is losing the ends of your eyebrows
