Nordette

Has anyone here had any experiences with Nordette?

The thing is, right now I'm on Alesse and have been for two years. About six months in, I started getting some breakthrough bleeding (basically having my full period the week before my placebos, and then a very light or nonexistent period the placebo week, or I would just get a period for two full weeks), and this year I got it probably 8/12 months. Besides that I have had basically no other negative side effects.

I was on Orthotricyclen for a year before Alesse, and I never had that problem, but I did have mood swings, weight gain, my breasts got bigger, and I got really depressed which is why I went off of it. I am also obviously sensitive to triphasic pills and their fluctuating hormones since every week I felt noticeably different. My OB-GYN also told me to start taking vitamin B6 when I started taking Alesse (100mg daily) to help the depression, and I still take that so I don't know which one fixed it.

The reason I chose Nordette is because it has slightly higher amounts of estrogen, even though I know it's generally progestin activity that causes breakthrough bleeding (at least, in days 10-21). Orthotricyclen has less progestin than Alesse and my period was fine, I think it might have been the estrogen drop that caused the problem. Also, Nordette and Alesse contain the exact same ingredients (Ethinyl Estradiol and Levonorgestrel), just in different amounts, so since my body is used to Alesse, I shouldn't be having any severe side effects, right?
Thank you!

Re: Nordette

I think you're having breakthrough b/c of the low estrogen in Alesse (only 20 mg. I think, compared to Nordette which has 30 mg.) I am on Seasonale, which is the pill that lets you only get your period 4 times/year. It is the same as Nordette (just marketed and packaged differently). I've been on several pills and this one is the best I've ever been on. Good luck! Cyndee
