advantia side effects

hi there,
i wanted to tell my moms story. she has borderline diabetes, she is 75yo. and her doctor put her on advantia(the other meds for diabetes gave her allergic reactions) after a few months on it she got congestive heart failure. which was odd since she'd never smoked and had a very healthy heart up till then. I went online and did a search on her meds and found that advantia had a rare side effect of "congestive heart failure" . we told her doctor who looked at us like we were from outer space and told mom to continue use. she decided to not take it for awhile and her sugar was fine for 4-5 months. then her doctor found out she wasn't taking it and yelled at her to take it again, which she did. few months later she was having heart trouble again. pneumonia etc.. after more painful heart tests finally, just yesterday her doctor told her they were taking her off advantia.....they think that is what was causing her heart failure..........OH REALLY!!!! YOU THINK???! (mom listened to me and quit taking it a month ago) listen to your bodies people!! I guess you have to almost die twice before they'll look into the possibility that the meds are causing you any trouble.

annelizly I don't know where your doctor went to school or lesarned his patient manner but he/she is dead wrong. My doctor took me off avandia two and a half years ago upon receiving published warning about "Congestive heart failure!" I also learned to make on-line searches for "Medication name annd contr-indications. (I do the same for suppliments)

I too took avandia couple yrs back, along with amaryl, and glucophage. I think i was over medicated. Then i purchased a computer and started looking up some of these meds. It was too late, i had already had a heart attack.

Drs can be intimidating, but like you said, its our bodies and we should have the final say. Hope your mom feels better and get back on track.
