young girl seeking weight help

I am having a really hard time with my weight right now. I am an 18 year old girl and I am fairly active in athletics. I play soccer and softball. Soccer in the fall and softball in the spring. All winter, I have been conditioning over the winter by weightlifting and a little running. I don’t feel that I’m FAT, I just know that I’m overweight. I’m 5’4” and 150 lbs. My BMI score is way above what it should be. My goal weight is 125 lbs, and according to BMI, that’d be a healthy weight for me. I originally searched for a doctor or nutritionist that I could personally contact and speak with about my options and recommendations for myself. I didn’t find what I was looking for, but I found these boards, and I thought maybe someone else could help me. I have many spots on my body that I am wanting to target. I need some help. If anyone would like to contact me, please please do. Also, if you know of any contact information for someone I could talk to that could possibly give me a personal diagnosis/plan/help I would be extremely willing. Please reply. You may also send e-mail to me at [ please carefully review the posting rules - no emails ] thank you.

Re: young girl seeking weight help

Hi Saddison,
I think you might want to look at what you're eating.
One pound equals 3500 calories. And, as athletic (and young!) as you are, you're probably metabolizing about 2500 calories per day. If you were to limit yourself to 1500 calories per day, your body would burn 1000 calories of fat to keep you going. In 3 1/2 days, you'd lose 1 pound. At that rate, you'd lose 2 pounds per week.

By the way, I believe BMI is evaluated differently for athletes.
