Ear Infection Question 13 month old

Took my daughter to the ER Saturday morning she had a 101 fever and was just laying there whimpering. Saturday night she wouldn't sleep til 11 30 at night. Sunday she was a little cranky and had a small 101 fever again. Well this Morning at 3 30 am I checked on her and she was just burning up. I checked her temp and it was 102.1 so I layed down with her for a while and she kept coughing.

Well she's been on Zithromax since Saturday and she keeps getting fevers. I need advice before I call the pediatrician or decide to take back to ER. Any help would be appreciated.

Well called Pediatrician and they put me on hold for 10 minutes then a receptionist picked up and took a message. They're suppose to call me back today though last time it took 6 hours for them to call me back thank god it wasn't an emergency then :/

her fever is nor breaking with meds and they told you not to bring her in? that sounds weird to me. Just remember to trust your intuition and if you feel something is really wrong then to take her to the ER.

Re: Ear Infection Question 13 month old

Well they'd break for about an hour or two then start up again. She said that since she's on Zithromax that it can take up to 5 days to get relief. I hate seeing my daughter in such distress over an ear infection. I get upset over a little sore throat.

Oh and btw does ear infections cause your throat to be irritated and red? The ER doctor said hers were irritated but saw no signs of pus aka Strep. I panic everytime I even think of strep throat and i'd just lose it if my poor child got it as often as I did. :/ I can't get her to open her mouth much for me to check her throat so might do that, but since she's on Antibiotics it might kick anything that she may have I Hope.

Edit to add...

When is a fever too high. My dad said that 102 fever isn't something to get worked up over in a child. My mom's co worker said not to worry until the child gets a 107 fever <---- That's just messed up in my opinion and thankfully this woman doesn't have children.

It's something that i'd rather know becuase I get anxious when she breaks 100. She rarely gets fevers and they are usually associated with vaccines so any information on fevers is appreciated.

Re: Ear Infection Question 13 month old

I'm surprised they gave you zithromax -- it's more spendy and they usually prescribe the pink stuff or augmentin. DS has always been put on the stronger augmentin -- his fever usually continues to go up/stay up for the first day and then is manageable the next day and by the third day of antibiotics he's good to go. We just make sure we keep giving him tylenol every 4 hours.

BTW, I found out last summer I wasn't giving DS enough tylenol. I was giving him the dosage for a small infant and because of his age/weight I could have been giving him twice as much. Scared the heck out of me 'cuz his fever was well over 103
