Unhappy newly diagnosed pancreatic cancer

My DH was just diagnosed last Thursday with adenocarcinoma of the pancreas. CT done in December didn't show anything, but latest one Feb 11 showed a mass in the head of the pancreas and a spot on his liver. Did a CT guided biopsy Thursday and it came back as an adenocarcinoma (primary) that had probably metastisized to the liver. We see the oncologist tomorrow. Do any of you have experience with homeopathic treatments as an adjunct to conventional treatments (chemo, radiation, surgery)? Any suggestions to stimulate his appetite? He's been in excruciating pain for at least 3 weeks now and we finally got some morphine patches that help but don't completely take the pain away. He's lost about 70 lbs since late summer, had 2 stints placed and replaced in his common bile duct, had his gall-bladder removed, the stricture in his CBD resected (in January), and now (finally) the diagnosis of cancer. CA 19-9 levels have steadily gone up to the present level of 1324. He's only 54. Any thoughts, ideas, and prayers are appreciated.

Re: newly diagnosed pancreatic cancer

Thank you. We saw the oncologist today and start chemo tomorrow. Brought home a serious bag of medicines from the pharmacy across the street from the hospital where I work. Thank goodness for good insurance. Everyone has been so supportive. Please keep us in your prayers. We can't ask for miracles if we don't expect them to happen!

Re: newly diagnosed pancreatic cancer

Hi - I am very sorry to hear about your husband. I had cancer and went through chemotherpay and radiation, please let me know if you have any questions about it in terms of how your husband may feel etc. My cancer was very bad, small cell ovarian cancer and I was told I would likely die, it is actually a fatal form of cancer, but I have survived it and just celebrated 14 years cancer free!!! Your husband can beat this too, and I am praying he will!!

Let me know if you have any questions that I can help with.

Re: newly diagnosed pancreatic cancer

Hello, First let me say I am sorry you have to go through this. I lost my husband at the age of 32 to pancreatic cancer on Oct. 31, 2004. Is your husband able to have the whipple? My husband did not lose his appetite but he did lose 130 lbs. Just make sure the doctors know that the patches are not taking all of the pain away. There is no reason to be in pain. My husband also was on patches but also ativan to help him sleep, which was wonderful and he also was on liquid morphine. That all combined seemed to help with the pain. Do you know what chemo/ rad he is doing? My dh was on 5fu w/ the radiation. the chemo wasn't too bad but the rad. made him very weak and sick. Zofran worked wonders. He would take it right before his radiation treatment.
Your family will be in my prayers. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
Jessica
