Question nodule found

After an x-ray for something else doctor called to ask that I have a second chest x-ray taken and then a CT scan. I was able to talk to the radiologist after the CT scan was completed and he showed me the nodule of about 1cm. He did indicate that there was calcification, but that because of the type of edges around the nodule he was concerned. My doctor has not called me yet as I don't think she got the results until late Friday. I feel that not only must I work with my doctor, but also in many ways take charge of my life. My doctor is family phys. so presume she will send me to a specialist. Not sure what type of specialist I should have. Am some what confused as to what type of biopsy I should have if any. Must add that I have smoked for 30+ years and am 57 years old. From all of your experiences can I have your input as to courses of treatment, questions for doctors and any thing else you think I should be aware of.
Thank you so much.
