Post What else could it be???

A 1cm "spot" was found on my x-ray in extreme upper left lung. Am scheduled for CT scan next week.

What could this be "other" than tumor? Have never heard of cysts in lungs & having searched many data bases online can't find anything to indicate what "else" it might be.

Do not see how it could be scarring as was told it is a "spot". Does anyone have any info or know where I might get more?

Any guidance would be most appreciated.

Hi Siouxzee,

Thanks for the reply....I think! Seems "anything" would be better than the "big C". but never knew there was so many other possibilities.

I had the xray to ck for pneumonia because I have bronchitis right now. Doc said pneumonia or emphysema would look different, more foggy, not solid. This is a small "mass" of some kind, he said.

Guess I'll know more after CT scan. You sound very knowledgable in this field so hope I'll be able to "find" you here when I have a diagnosis.

Thanks again.

It's "good" that you have bronchitis right now for 2 reasons.

One being, this could very well be what this spot is related to. It's very easy to misread an x-ray of the lung, not because doctor's are too dumb to read them but more because it's a rudimentary tool nowadays with MRI's, CT scans and the like and moreso because the incidents of false positives on lung x-rays is pretty high.

Second being, that you'll get to find out what this is if it is something. It's alway's better to catch any kind of thing early. I know it's hard not to worry so I won't even tell you not to. If you smoke, quit now. This may just be the incentive you need. If you don't smoke that's even more good news because lung cancer is pretty rare in someone who doesn't smoke.
Good luck.
