Post Just found out Father has cancer.

I am new on this board. I came here because I need support. Three weekends ago my father had another heart episode (his rapid heart beat problem) and wound up in the emergency room. They took a chest x-ray as they did when this happened six months ago. This time there was something showing on his lung and liver so they did a bunch of tests, CT Scan etc. There is a mass on his lung and spot on his liver. On 2/11/03, he had an ultra sound. My x sister in law is a nurse and looked at the results for my brother on the computer. They say there is a large mass on my father's lung and he has metastatic liver cancer. Today is Thursday and no one has called my father. He called the doctor's office today because the phone rang and he missed picking it up. The nurse told him if the doctor needed to call him back, he will. Should someone be contacting him or am I just panicking. He is 84. And I know liver cancer is fatal.

Nancy Ellen..... Are you sure that the records are going to the doctor? If so, sometimes it takes a week or two. You can also call and make an appointment with the doc and explain what was found, then he will maybe rush or have them fax the reports over. Good Luck

im new here as well and your story sounds similiar to mine. my daddy is only 59 and he has small cell lung cancer that has spread to the liver.

they wouldnt let him leave the hospital till we spoke with an oncologist and set up treatment.
he was in there a week and we saw so many doctors and heard so many things that I got a notebook to keep track of it all!!
demand answers and if you dont get them bug them till you do!!
and if you have any questions email me i will try to help

The doctor's office called Friday night to tell my father he will be having a liver biopsy. They called today and the test is set up for Tuesday, Feb 25th. I will let you know what happens next.

My father had his liver biopsy today. He is fine. He said it was nothing and he will be back delivering the mail to my office tomorrow. My question is, the release papers said to contact your PCP. He is in Florida for an extended period because of marriage problems. I am sure another doctor is taking over his patients. Should I push my father to call his doctor's office or just let it go? He doesn't want chemo or to see an oncologist. Will they call him and let him know the test results?
