Question non-hodgkins lymphoma &skin cancer?

I am a Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma survivor...last chemo was March 28, 2001...my relaxation used to be in a tanning bed after work a few days a week...have heard that a skin cancer maight be a greater risk for those with this disease...was wandering if anyone knows any information regarding this...have not tanned since diagnosis in November of 2000, but would very much like to even if it's just once or twice a week...maybe with sunblock even...does anyone know any statistics or has anyone been in my shoes...would appreciate any survivors input because dr.'s don't always give it to you straight...Thanks.........

Hi LisaRenee':

I'm a parent of a child who underwent chemo and bone marrow transplant for a leukemia. Our HEM/ONCs and BMT docs also told us about increased photosensitivity and therefore increased risk of skin cancer. However, the level of increased risk also depends on the specific meds/chemo you were on.

Suggest you list all of the meds [chemo and adjuvant] used in your protocol [PDQ] and check them on the MedLinePlus drug database. As well, you can check with the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society, cancer.org, cancerlit, ACOR.org, ONCOLINK, etc.

National Cancer Institute (NCI) CancerNet Database - Main Index [this has PDQ info]

Good luck,
Jay
