Unhappy Medullary Carcinoma

My sister has been diagnosed with Medullary Carcinoma. She has had 9 surgeries removing her lymphnodes that 85% of those removed were malignant. They think she has had this terminal cancer for aproximately 5 years. She was misdiagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome until they did a blood test that showed high calcitonin levels and then decided to do a biopsy on the lump in her neck. It has not spread to her lungs, bones, liver or brain. (She is at stage 4?) She is in her late 40's. Can anyone give me some information on alternative therapies, treatments that might prolong her life? Please??*begging*?? I want to help her anyway that I can! Thank you so much for any responses or new information or alternative treatments that may prolong her life.

Hi,
I don't know much about this drug other than what I have been told by a friend. Hydrozine Sulfate is a drug that has been used in treating late stage cancer patients with a terminal prognosis. It has it's success stories ranging from total remission to prolonging one's life longer. It's also had absolutely no affect on people. I believe it is controversial to the point some doctors will not administer it, and some will deny its existence (why I don't know). From the info I've gathered it has some side effects ranging from headaches to liver problems; but if your options are limited it may be an alternative.

Again, I mean not to get your hopes up as I know little about it myself. I have zero first hand expirience with it. It may only be affective with certain types of cancers and completely inaffective with your sister's type. However, it is worth researching and at the very least asking your doctor about it. If he/she won't even speak of it then go to somebody else. Doesn't hurt to ask the question.

Suggest you try looking up treatments from India, Japan and China - the three major Asian countries conducting clinical studies on 'alternative' or herbal medicines for cancer.

You will probably need to use an advanced science search engine for this - try scirus and copernik2001.

Here are a couple of U.S. links for information on alternative therapies and clinical trials [lymphoma].

Good luck,

I too have a very close family member who was diagnosed with medullary thyroid cancer about a year ago (though the doctors say she's probably had it for years now). She has had 2 operations (resulting in a complete neck dissection and thyroidectomy). The results of the 2nd operation have come back-- bad news. Her calcitonin and CEA levels have not come down at all. We don't know what to do-- I need any advice from anyone who can help. What does this mean? As far as we know, surgery is the only option (radiation & chemotherapy do not work for this type of rare cancer). Any alternive medications or therapies? Does anyone know a good herbalist I can talk to who specializes in cancer, or perhaps thyroid cancer? Anyone have any other ideas? I would appreciate any kind of help and advice. Thanks.
