I urinate at least 10 times a night :(

Hi, I'm a 24 year old male and ever since I was 22, I've had frequent urination during the day and night. I haven't counted how many times I pee a day, I estimate it ranges from 10 times on a good day and 30 times on a bad. I have to urinate so frequently at night that in order not to completely destroy my sleep cycle, I keep a 'urine bottle' on the side of my bed at night. I routinely fill the liter bottle almost to the top.

I've tried sooo hard to retrain my bladder not to go so often without success. I sometimes ignore the urge for over an hour, but it never goes away. I don't know if this is a prostate problem or not. I never have pain or trouble urinating. The urine is a light yellow. What I hate is how everytime I go pee, it's not that much. It's as if the bladder barely fills up before the sphincter relaxes.

As I'm sure many of you know, this is a frustrating problem and is very distracting while doing activities during the day and sleeping at night. Does anyone else here urinate this often?

Hi justinluck,

You are very young to have this type of problem. Find the TOP urologist in your area or however far you're willing to drive, to get a bulletproof opinion. They can run quick and easy tests for all sorts of things nowadays. I had it, but it started at age 53 for me. I was put onto Proscar and Flomax and that did the trick! My PSA eventually went up and now I have prostate cancer and will get that out of me on April 5th via robotic surgery. Just get checked because it's probably something that can be treated easily, especially at 24! Good luck and let us know how you do.

So you guys had the exact same symptom I am having? I never thought about the prostate until recently because I assumed I would feel pain or have trouble urinating if the prostate was enlarged. But you are right, I should go get it checked out.

Justinluck-Ask your doctor about Detrol, Detrol LA, Ditropan XL and/or oxybutynin. These agents can often calm the bladder, relaxing it and decreasing the urge to urinate. That is assuming nothing else is wrong.
Haisook-Proscar is a tablet that inhibits the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone(DHT) which is the active & more powerful form of testosterone. DHT causes overgrowth & "congestion" of prostate tissue. Flomax is a capsule that relaxes prostate tissue & some bladder tissue so urine can pass more freely through the prostate via the urethra. Less tissue & less "tone" of the tissue equals better urination.
