Anyone ever taken this medication?

I have been perscribed a sedative for a procedure next month and was wondering if anyone here had ever been on halcion for any reason? I have to take one the night before and one the next morning about an hour before going in. I have read some things on the net but really am nervous about it and was wanting to hear about some personal experiences with it. I just get a bit anxious when I think I am taking something that will cause me to lose control, etc.

TIA

Re: Anyone ever taken this medication?

Depends on what kind of procedure you are having. If it is something to just put you at ease, then, I think halcion is pretty strong stuff for that. If if is a procedure with great pain they have an antheisologist to administer a light sleep. You go to sleep instantly, wake up instantly with no side effects.

Think I would question the doctor regarding halcion and ask why he chose that particular med and ask if there is something safer.

Re: Anyone ever taken this medication?

It is for a very minor surgical (gum) procedure so its basically just to keep me calm. He told me that he recommends that for all patients having the procedure, though it is optional. I have heard some positive things about it, but I am just one of those people who has seldom been on any type of sedative drug and things like that make me a bit anxious. Thanks for your reply!

Re: Anyone ever taken this medication?

My daughter and my dad both had to have tooth implants and halcion was prescribed for an hour before surgery in both cases. My dad was a little loopy and kinda funny afterwards. My daughter was sound asleep when we dragged her rear into the dentist's office, she slept through the whole thing, then started to wake up by the time we were almost home. Then she sat up on the couch the rest of the afternoon, watching soap operas and drinking malts, courtesy of her high school friends. Both experiences went well and I was pleased with the way the halcion did on both my daughter and my dad.
