Questions on how long you are up at a time and also on oxycontin/oxycondone

I am curious as to how long each of you are up at a time after being flat on your back? For example, are you up for an hour after being down for an hour, or up just a few minutes of each hour? How much walking are you doing at say 1 week after surgery, two weeks, three weeks, etc.
Thanks so much!! I am 9 days past surgery. I have been trying to do a lot of walking...15 or so minutes at a time. I try to do these sustained walks every hour and a half or so. I am up about 2 1/2 to three hours at a time either standing or walking around the house..not the sustained walk. Sitting only for meals. I do two or so sustained 15 minute walks during that 2 1/2 to three hours. Maybe too much?

Also, how much oxycontin does everyone take and for how long? I take 10mg. oxycontin in the morning and 10 at night. Then I have 5 mg. oxycodone tablets that I can take every 4-6 hours for breakthrough pain. I am trying not to take too many of those. Yesterday I only took one oxycodone.

Does the oxycontin or oxycodone have any side effects for you? Some days I handle them ok, and a day like today they really seem to make me feel tired, listless and rundown. Today I have just taken the one oxycontin in the the morning and no oxycodone. I am surprised I feel so listless today.

I am sleeping well for 6-7 hours at night. It is hard to sleep in one position on the back without moving, isn't it!

Is it ok to put pillow under your knees when you are laying on your back?

Thanks!

Re: Questions on how long you are up at a time and also on oxycontin/oxycondone

You don't want to overdo things like walking, but you do want to walk some. I have heard that alot of people walk alot in the hospital after surgery. I was not allowed out of bed the whole time I was there until the day that my surgeon released me, and then only around my hospital room for a few minutes with the aid of a nurse and a pt. When I came home, I would get up and walk about 10 minutes every hour. I didn't sit down except to eat. I can tell you that laying flat on your back for any length of time is uncomfortable. I used a pillow under my knees and it didn't do any damage, but before you do, ask your doctor. It sounds like your doing pretty good for no longer than it has been.

As far as your oxycontin and oxycodone........I was on oxycontin for a while, but I came off of them. I take ultram & lodine for mild pain and for bad pain I take oxycodone. I have a very low tolerance for pain meds because I refuse to take more than 1 or 2 a day. I can take a oxycodone and be knocked out for a whole day.

Good Luck with your recovery!!! Keep Smiling!!!
