BC causing veins?

Hello,

I was wondering if the pill can cause varicose and spider veins in the legs?

Re: BC causing veins?

I am so glad someone posted about this, I have been so ready to myself!! For the past 9 out of 11 years I have been using horomonal BC (the pill and depo). When I quit the pill (to get OFF the horomones) it was because I was starting to get spider veins in my right calf (nearly 3 years ago, I am 25 now).

When I quit the pill, no more veins appeared. I was doing nothing unusual to get the veins --No heels, no long periods of standing, and they do not run in my family, my mom didn't even have them when she was pregnant. In fact, I even engage in cardio on a regular basis. Well, I started taking the pill again 3 months ago, and I can see more spider veins coming up under the surface close to where the other ones are.

Is this a coincidence? My GYN says no way, but everyone is different, I know my own body. There are implications and contrandications where the pill is concerned with blood vessel integrity in the legs.

So I think it is entirely possible, and I'd like to hear from anyone else if this has happened to them, too

Re: BC causing veins?

I have heard that taking Horse Chestnut pills can be very effective in stopping and treating veins in the legs. However, I am wondering if this will have any effects on the pill?

Re: BC causing veins?

I don't know about interfering with the pill, but for 6 months I used an herb combination (and a cream on my legs) which contained horse chestnut, butchers broom, and some other stuff that is supposed to be beneficial for vascular health. I also tried using the vitamin K cream to no avail (but that stuff IS amazing for bruises, now I always keep some "just in case").

I believe that these herbs can help prevent new veins from forming, and can be a great help for varicrose veins, but due to the nature of what spider veins are and how they are formed, the only way they can be removed is with sclerotherapy (sigh...)

Re: BC causing veins?

So, I am almost 100% certain that my pill is causing me spider veins on my legs. So, do I change to another pill or will this stop?

Advice!
