Post Very Mild CP

I have 2 1/2 yr. old boy with symptoms of mild cp. He cannot talk or walk unassisted. He is receiving PT/OT/Speech. He is relying on sign language and learning new signs every day! He will enter public school for disabled children when he turns 3. I would love to hear from anyone who is having similar experience. I am in Houston,TX and would be interested in any support group in my area.

My daughter is 5 years old and has mild CP, Although each child is different, your story sounds similar to mine. My daughter was in Speech, OT and PT. She didn't walk independently until she was a little over 3 years old. She was discharged from speech around 2 1/2 years old. She has been in the school system since she was 3 years old and I absolutely love it! It has been one of the best things that I could have done for her. Feel free to e-mail me if you want.

Hello,

I just wanted to write and give you alittle encouragement. I am 32 years old have have a slight case of CP that affects my left side. I had mutiple surgeries at ages 2 3 11 and 15. I thank my parents for letting me live a very normal life like all my friends. I wrestled from kindergarten thru 12 grade. Placed 5th in the state tournament. I was in cross country and on the debate team in college. I have been in sales successfully for the last 7 years and have 5 beautiful, 100% healthy children. Your son will be completely fine. Please don't baby him or act like he has a handicap and he will be able to do wonderful things in his life. If you have any questions or if I can be of any help please email me. Thanks so much, Ben

Hello Ben,

My name is Chen and I came across your message while I was searching on the HealthBoards bulletin. My nephew also has a slight case of CP that affects his left side. He is 7 years old now, the muscles of his left hand, arm and leg are not as tight as right side. He can remember things and talk to others better than the average kids. But you can definitely see the difference with other kids while he is walking and he will fall down if he runs. His handwriting is too bad to identify but he can recognise the words very well.

I noticed you had multiple surgeries while you were young, and you must have had lots of experience on how to treat this kind of CP and what would be the best result we can expect. It would be greatly appreciate if you can share your experience (for example, what were the surgeries for and the results) with me, thanks a lot!

Again, any information from you will be extremely helpful! (my email address is yaozhong_chen@yahoo.com)

Thanks a lot,
Chen
