I believe most colleges have offices of disabled student services, which offers assistance and/or accommodations to students with disabilities. You and the student talk to the disabled student services coordinator at the prospective schools and tour the prospective campuses to find out offered/needed accommodations/assistance.
Make sure the student is firm about requesting an accessible dorm room. My first dorm room wasn't, and I had to fight the residence life director at letting me change to a more accessible dorm. My disabled student services coordinator couldn't do anything to persuade the residence life personell to get me into an accessible dorm. I think the offices of disabled student services mostly deals w/ academic building accomodations, help in the cafeteria, note takers, adapted furniture, help w/ carrying books, and help in daily living areas.
