yeah dude, I have the same problem basically. I had some all over and I took some prednisone which was good at getting rid of most of it but to my dissappointment, it returns. It is a hassle getting rid of this thing because it is so persistent and no matter what I do it seems to just stay there. I am guessing that yours is genetic and/or allergies. If you have had it for years, there is a good chance it is genetic and there isn't much you can do but relieve the itching. However, it could be allergies. My best bet is to think of something you do that is habitual and determine the chemical and dust agents that may be causing it. For me, I have a feeling that it could be my laundry detergent (in this case, I would use the detergents with no dye and perfumes) I haven't washed my clothes yet in the new detergent but I hope to do so in a couple of days to see if it is what's causing it. Or it could be just plain pollen, dust, oak, mold, etc. I have never had eczema but I got it in the heaviest allergy season and I happen to live in an area of high pollen, oak, mold, and all these other agents. Zyrtec only helps my nasal allergies but I believe the skin problem is exacerbated by contact by these agents. If this is the case, I really have no choice but to wait it out and relieve the itching symptoms. For the itching symptoms, my doctor prescribed me atarax but this makes me drowsy and I have to take it more than once so I only take one during the night even though I am supposed to take three daily. It seems to help and I also use 1% hydrocortisone cream which is basically the same stuff the dermatologist give you (corticosteroids) but it's a less effective form. Be careful about using corticoteroids or steroids because the long-term side effects (skin thinning) are undesirable. You may also want to use gentle cleansing shampoo and bar soap (cetaphil). You may also want to moisturize your skin with moistorizers such as Aveeno. Use the laundry detergents mentioned and see if it is working. If not, I am willing to bet that it's genetic and there is pretty much nothing you can do about it. I hope it's not genetic with mines and I hope it's not with yours. The psychological stress may also be a factor. I know it sucks to have it as it sucks being in public and having it in general.
{removed} I am researching this like crazy and I have become sort of a database for eczema... sadly... Or if you want someone to talk to about your problems as I know it sucks. Also, I wouldn't mind sharing my own experiences. By the way, a lot of the dermatologists are idiots and they do the same crap and prescribe you corticosteroids, perhaps by the fact that drug companies are influencing them (I am betting it's monetarily). I wouldn't be surprised that if you were to go to different dermatologist that they would do the same. One dermatologist told me I bumped into poison ivy when I clearly didn't (what an idiot). Anyways yeah...
