Question Am I drinking too much beer?

I would like your opinion on whether or not you think I'm drinking too much beer.

I don't drink any alcohol at all during the weekdays: Mon. - Thurs.
Friday: 1-4 beers (light/low-carb)
Saturday: 2-6 beers (some light; some dark [Stout/Ale/etc])
Sunday: 1-4 beers (light/low-carb)
Total Weekend drinking: 4-14 beers

Also, I don't (usually) drink the beers all at once and I like to drink them slowly and make them last as long as possible. I drink at a rate at about one beer per 0.5 - 1.0 hours.

Does anyone think this is too much? I wouldn't want to mess up my liver over this.

I think you're fine, however I think one to two drinks everyday is healther than binge drinking on the weekend only. That's what I was told anyway.

Re: I am drinking too much beer?

Although they say it's better to just have a couple of drinks per day, a lot of people do drink like yourself. They don't drink during the work week and then like to party a little on the weekends. I don't think you are hurting your liver by doing this, since you are giving it a rest during the week. Also, taking a lot of vitamins, includng Vitamins B and C, reallly helps keep your liver healthy. Milk Thistle is an excellent liver cleanser. I drank a lot more than that for a longer period of time, and after I cut back, I had my liver checked and it was fine. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I do take Milk Thistle daily. My latest blood test revealed the following liver related results:

ALT: 24 [15-50]
AST: 24 [10-40]
Alkaline Phosphate: 63 [30-115]
Globulin: 3.2 [2.0-3.5]
A/G ratio: 1.5 [1.0-2.4]
Albumin: 4.8 [3.3-5.5]
Bilirubin: 0.6 [0.2-1.2]
