Question Breast Lift/Normal Scarring

I had a breast reduction/lift almost three months ago. I knew going in that I would have some permanent scarring and am fine with it. However, at the end of one of the scars on the side, is a rather swollen, red, almost protruding section of the scar. Is this normal or could something be wrong?

Hi, Julbox. I've considered a breast reduction/lift for a long time now, but don't think I'll ever do it. But good for you that you had it done if you wanted it! As to your question, three months is often not enough time for those types of scars to flatten completely, so a lump or raised part is probably very normal. Many people wait a good six months for the scars to flatten out and start fading. If it's bright red, though, maybe you should see your PS again and ask about it, just to be on the safe side. At three months the scars should have begun to lighten, although they would certainly still be pink. Also, if the "lump" is what is referred to as a "dog ear"....which is a section at the end of a surgical scar that remains raised and puffy because of the way the skin was pulled to suture it....then it can be revised at the correct time. Your PS would be able to tell if that's what this is, and a reputable PS should be willing to correct it. Good luck.

Hi, yes the scars are normal, If you are not interested in having a surgery to correct this contact your surgeon and ask him about a new product (I don't know the name of it) If you are interested let me know and I will get the name for you. Good Luck to you, I wish I had been left with such small scars. Hopefully I can find a good PC to help fix me.

Question

What would the surgery involve? Would the cost of this procedure be included in my original surgery or would I have to pay for it?

I don't think the revision would be inlcuded in the original surgery cost but you should check with your surgeon first. I seriously think you should look into the other option. I will try and get that information for you within the next couple of weeks.
