Preparation H & High BP

Hello - I am currently taking Lebetalol 2x per day (100 mg each) a diuretic for high bp. I am having a hemorrhoid issue. The package of Prep H says not to use if you have high b/p or are taking b/p meds. Any idea why not? Should I call my dr. before I use? Has anyone else used this while on b/p meds?

Thanks.

Re: Preparation H & High BP

Worrywart,

I've used both frequently and never DREAMED there might be a problem. I'll look into it but I'd be amazed if there really was any connection, expecially since the FDA forced the company to stop its advertizing because the FDA claimed Prep-H didn't DO anything. :! It gives ME occasional symptomatic relief and that's all I need.
I just looked on the box and there it is in blue and yellow Do not use if you are taking a prescription drug for high blood pressure without consulting your doctor...

Hooey, I bought 20 boxes at the $.99 store after the recall...LOL, my boxes STILL claim to shrink 'roids! And I hope to live long enough to use them all up...about once a month means I'm planning to live a LONG life!

Anyone know what methlyparaben or proplyparaben might do with BP meds?

Re: Preparation H & High BP

Ask your pharmacist. The only thing I can think is that Prep H constricts blood vessels, thereby giving relief. If you have high blood pressure, you don't want to constrict blood vessels. Could using a small amount locally impact your entire blood vessel network? Doesn't seem likely. Now maybe if you ate a whole tube's worth....
