sudden surge in BP inspite of medication

last year i was diagnosed with HBP, 150+/90+, Dr put me on 2 medication atenenol and a calcium blocker. for few months the BP stayed below 130/80. But again for the last few weeks i have seen sudden spikes during the day, 150+/90+. I am 32 year old, vegan, 180lbs, regular exercise, 4 miles 5 days a week brisk walking, YOGA 15 mins daily. I have done most of tests, all negative.

Any suggestions?

Are you watching your salt intake closely? Maybe you might benefit from a diuretic. Ask your doctor. It's cheap and very effective.

I wouldn't mix a beta block and a calcium channel blocker (esp. one that slows your heart rate) until you've exhausted all the other possibilities.

Vital statistics please: sex and height. Often weight loss is the single best thing you can do for hypertension.
If your weight is FINE then I'd recommend a trial with ONLY a diuretic, perhaps 50 mg. HCTZ, for a month. Clearly the calcium and beta blockers aren't working well for you and your problem might be a simple fluid dynamics thing.

Well, Lenin is right. Remember your bp isn't that high and weight loss alone might be enough, and when diuretics work, they really work. Your MD should have followed the "best practice" of starting with one.
