New to BP Meds

My husband just got his first script for HBP meds. He will be taking Micardis and lasix. I get mixed results when I research the two together. In some places I read that ARBs and loop diuretics together can pose a risk and other web sites say it's OK to take them together.

His pressure stays in the 140-150 / 80 range which I don't think is too bad but since he had a heart attack 10 years ago I do feel he needs something more than what he was taking ( lasix 20 mgs & atenolol 75 mgs )

Any opinions?

Re: New to BP Meds

Cass,

Had to read your post a couple of times since you say your husband just got his first script for BP meds. But atenolol IS a BP med...I presume it was prescribed after his heart attack, beta blockade being pretty standard treatment in order to improve survival.

Regarding Micardis plus Lasix, the source I use for drug-drug interactions indicates a "moderate" interaction insofar as loop diuretics, being especially potent, can increase the effects of the Micardis.

However, in your husband's case, this may not be such a bad thing if you want his systolic to come down lower than 140-150.

Thanks Zuzu,
Yes you are correct. He has been on atenolol every sice his attack. Sometimes I forget it's a BP med since it doesn't do anything for my BP (unless I try to get off of it) then it sends it into orbit.
