BC Pill Vs. Nuvaring

Hi. I've had problems in the past with bc pills--moodiness/ depression and low sex drive (I've been on Desogen, Demulen, and Low-Ogestrel), but I love the benefits of being on the pill--regulated period, less cramping, and clearer skin, as well as the obvious benefit of preventing pregnancy. As I've never been on a tri-phasal pill I thought that might work better for me, and my gyn gave me samples of Ortho TriCyclen Lo to try; she also suggested Yasmin and the Nuvaring as alternatives. I know everyone has different reactions, but I figured I'd get as much input as I can. I also don't know anyone who's used the Nuvaring. Anyone want to share their experiences on Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo, Yasmin, or the Nuvaring--particularly those who've had depression and libido problems on the Pill in the past? Thanks!!

Re: BC Pill Vs. Nuvaring

Well I can at least tell you about the Nuvaring. When I started birth control about 3 years ago I started on Ortho-TriCyclen and it did fine, but then I tried the Patch and it is really great also, you only have to worry about it once a week, I place mine on my abdomen and it seems to work really well and it prevents pregnancy just like the pill and it regulates wonderfully. So that might be an option for you as well. Now I tried the Nuvaring for a week and I hated it. Not at first of course but let me explain. It was great until I had sex so if you have sex I wouldn't recommend it. It stayed in place and I couldn't tell it was there or anything, so when I had sex the first time it was fine, but the second time it came out on my boyfriend's penis and I was freaked out because I didn't even realize that it had come out until later. I have heard of girls taking it out until they are finished with sex though but that is a personal choice and it is fine to do so. You should try it out probably, but I didn't like it. Just give it a try anyway, you might like it more than I did. However, if I had to suggest something other than the pill it would be the patch, i've been on that for like a year and it's done great, just don't put lotion anywhere near it or oils or anything or it will come loose. I am going to switch to a pill and I was wanting to hear about Yasmin as well so maybe someone else will post something about that.

Re: BC Pill Vs. Nuvaring

Well I recommend you try Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo or the ring. The patch is nice but apparently the evra patch people are getting sued for various reasons. I would love to try the patch but it got me thinking....being "new" and all and with so many people having those "serious" kinda problems like blood clots and such with it...its kinda scary.

I know the ring is new also but i havent heard any bad things about it..the main problems ive heard girls had with the ring is that it sometimes slides down but that depends how deep you put it in. Also yeast infections tend to increase with some people who are on the ring..but some girls have suggested taking the ring out when taking a shower and just washing it a lil and placing it back in helped them eliminate infections.

Well, I hate the nuvaring! It caused no weight gain or hurt my sex drive, but gave me chronic infections - vicious infections! I'd get a bacterial, then a yeast, then bacterial, etc... It was awful! I had tons of discharge and irritation constantly.
