I am a 31 year old women who had a kidney transplant last year after being on diaylsis for almost 9 years. During that time I had a partcial parathyroidectomy to help curb a phosphate/calcium problem common among dialysis patients. For years the doctors kept telling me I still needed to control my calcium and phosphorus levels and watch my parathyroid hormone levels, because it could cause problems with my bones.
To make a long story short, I am still having bone and muscle pain which started about 4 years ago. My parathyroid hormone level is so far out of control again they are going back in to remove a large amount of the remaining gland. I am then going to be taking fosamax. I am just curious to know if anyone has had a similar problem, or know how well the fosamax works. My only concern at this point is getting rid of the pain so I can return to doing strange things like jogging, and bicycling.
