sorry for the cross post
I am a white male 38 who rarely gets sick. this year it has been a scorching summer in New jersey and i have been constantly going from 100 degree heat to 60 cold air conditioned office. I have gotton sore throats from this in the past and early in July I noticed I had a pretty swollen throat mainly my tonsils. After a few days I went to the doctor and he did a culture for strep whcih came back negative. He told me I had infected glands then prescribed me a 3 pill pack of zithromycin. Almost instanlty I noticed the swelling in my tonslis went down and I finished the medication and everything seemed fine. Then about 5-6 days after I took my last pill I noticed a dull ache below my left jawline in my neck where my glands are. This was only on the left side and within 2 days my left side gland was underneath my jaw was very swollen. No sore throat fever or any other sypmtoms just this swollen gland. The right side was a little swollen but not like the left side.
After a few days I went back to the doctor and complained as my gland was pretty sore. He sent me for blood work and chem screen and didn't prescribe me anything else as it seemed he was pretty cluless and said by all means it should have cleared up. The blood work came back negative. i called back my docs office and finally got someone there to prescribe me more anti-biotics this time a 5 day supply of zithromax 250 mg. I am on day 3 of the supplly and while the swelling is not as bad as it was last tuesday my neck still hurts somewhat and the left gland is still swollen.
Am I expecting too much from this medication and is it normal for my neck to hurt for almost a week now? and was my docs office ok with re precribing me more zmax?? Like I said I have no other symptoms other than the swollen left gland and my tonsils seem fine as this was where the original problem arised from.
Did in fact the infection come back only this time in my gland because the original precription wasn't strong enough? This is what some people have told me. Any input would be appreciated.
regards,
Ray
