Synthroid vs Armour

Hi folks,

Hope everyone is doing as well as they can.

I've been on Synthroid for 3 weeks now, and do not have a follow-up for another 3 weeks. I have to say, I don't think my body is reacting to it well. Fatigue is greater, "brain-fog" more intense, serious hair-loss, appetite is weak, and my sleep schedule is really messed up. I've been taking it dilgently every morning, no food for 4 hrs, and have taken caffeine out of my diet. Exhausted until about mid-day, then wired after 9pm!

I know people seem to react better to one than the other. Is it worth it for me to try Armour, or is this the "development" period my body is going through? My doctor said it can take up to 6 weeks for a noticable effect.

Any advice is appreciated!

Yes it may take a while for it fully be in your system. Ask your Dr. about maybe taking half in morning and half in evening.
I am on a high dose of the synthroid for the past 20 years now. So far I have memory loss, and drastic weight gain and all the other usual side effects.
Did you have surgery?

Hi Rangeroad,You only have to wait 1 hour to eat after you take the synthroid. Why have you given up caffiene? I would bite the dust without my coffee in the morning.

Re: Synthroid vs Armour

I too felt worse on my first 6 days of synthroid then I felt better. I just had a TT and was put back on the same dose and am still feeling ok so give it some time for your body to adjust. I know that 3 weeks seems a big long and too me I would be insisting on something after 2 weeks, heck, after one week I was insane, you want to feel better.

I agree with lady, why the caffiene? That is my one indulgence in life. That is the first thing I wanted after my surgery after the ice chips, a cafe mocha from startbuck's mmmmmmmmm have had about 10 of them since last Tuesday!

Maybe the caffiene withdrawl is too hard on you?? That is what I am thinking it could be too.

Best of luck,
Karen

Re: Synthroid vs Armour

Yes Karen, many side effects for sure on withdrawls on many things. I don't drink coffee or tea at all...yuck..lol I am a pepsiholic so I still get my fix..lol
After I had the thyroid operation though I had some pop and felt weird on my throat so I didn't drink it for a while afterwards. Didn't think I would ever see the day that didn't want it...lol
