Question Questions about psa levels

Hello. My father has not been diagnosed with PC. He has a biopsy scheduled in two weeks. His Dr. told him that he had a hard prostate and his PSA levels are 36. Have any of you seen a PSA level that high and had it not be cancer? My mother is really upset and I just want to collect information for her that might ease her mind for the next two weeks. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Questions about psa levels

PSA levels are sometimes false but with a high PSA and a Digital Rectal Exam of a hard protate -- both togeher is just not good indications~~~
But, only a biopsy can tell for sure.

He could also have a fPSA test performed.

Do you know what his several previous psa levels were?

I don't know what his previous psa levels were. Thank you for replying though. I was just wondering if his were too high to be anything else. Thank you.

Re: Questions about psa levels

It could be various things such as a prostate inflamation etc. That's why a biopsy is needed...I would also ask for a fPSA test.
